About IML
The Institute for Military Learning (IML) provides SAF with the executive arm to professionalise the instructor corps and position SAF to be a leader in adult learning. IML conducts Training Development & Instructional (TD&I) courses and Continuing Professional Education programmes for all SAF TD&I practitioners, ranging from junior instructors to Training Institute Commanders to hone their competencies. IML drives the Training Institute (TI) excellence in all SAF TIs through the Training Institute Excellence Model (TIEM) certification.
Leadership message
"At IML, we are dedicated to support our SAF leaders’ development to keep pace with their professional progress. We have built a progressive learning framework and system that do more than just prepare; it mentors the next generation. By weaving specialised adult training concepts directly into our profession's trajectories, we ensure that our junior officers and specialists are not only effective leaders in their respective fields but also holders of WSQ accreditations that meet the national standards.
As we look towards 2040, we are reshaping our learning and systematic ecosystem. We are moving toward a future defined by a culture of military learning anchored on Andragogical, Instructional and Mentorship characteristics. We will move beyond classrooms to make learning a core part of how we grow. We will adopt smarter systems design, using data to tailor our instructional training to hit the mark every time. We will embrace a continuous-improvement approach by refining our excellence competencies iteratively so that we never stand still.
Ultimately, military learning is about our people. We are developing adaptive, mission-ready leaders who can thrive in a world that is becoming more volatile and technologically advanced by the day.”

Continuing Professional Education (Instructional) Programme
The Continuing Professional Education (Instructional) programme is offered in collaboration between the National Institute of Education and the SAF, and the programme serves to enhance and broaden the skills and knowledge of Training Development and Instructional (TD&I) practitioners beyond the specific vocational skillsets.
